Quick Fixes.

Not hearing audio?
- Make sure oto has Microphone permission (System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone)
- Check that the correct input device is selected in oto's preferences
- Try a different engine if one isn't working well for your language
Hotkey not working?
- Grant Accessibility permission (System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility)
- If using a custom hotkey, check it doesn't conflict with another app
- Try the default hotkey first to isolate the issue
Transcription accuracy low?
- Try a larger Whisper model (Settings → Engine → Model Size)
- Speak clearly and at a natural pace
- Reduce background noise — oto's Voice Activity Detection helps, but a quiet environment is best
- For non-English languages, make sure the correct language is selected or auto-detect is on
App won't launch or crashes?
- Make sure you're on macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later
- Try deleting and re-downloading from the App Store
- Contact us with your macOS version and Mac model — we'll sort it out
